Shira, 17 came on Aliyah at age 12 1/2 First of all, make sure to pick the school that is right for you. Once you have chosen your school, if you find that it isn't right for you, don't be afraid to make a switch, and don't be lazy saying, "It's only for a few years anyway." Even one year can make a big difference! Also, speak Hebrew. For 4 years I made the mistake of not using Hebrew and it really hurt me. This year I began to speak Hebrew and everything changed. I just received my first great report card since I am living in Israel. It is even better than the last report card I got in America! I did it; you can too! |

There are a lot of great things about Aliyah. That we’re in the real place for
Jews; that I can learn Hebrew; that it’s really, really cool; that I have a
million friends, maybe more. I would tell other children that they really,
really, really should make Aliyah. Whenever you go to Israel - like when I first
went to Israel - I felt like I wasn’t going to make friends and I thought maybe
I shouldn’t even try to make friends. But that’s a really bad idea to do that.
But now I have so many friends.

Lexi, 15 came on Aliyah at age 11 Aliyah!!!! Wow what to say about Aliyah how do I explain it!!!!! Amazing, sad, exciting, interesting, confusing, and hard!! Here are some things I suggest for pre aliyah.... Try hard to get for yourself a pen pal who's your age and lives in the place you're looking to move to. My aliya was very hard but I guess I knew it was the right thing to do so I just tried to get used to it! It was really hard to leave all my friends and family but you make new friends and you get involved with different kinds of activities and soon enough you'll see you have a ton of friends. I also recommend to go to some kind of youth group. There's a bunch of different kinds of things like Bnei Akiva, Ariel, Ezra depends where you live. Israel is amazing and for some kids it takes time and some get used to it right away. It's a really cool place... |
